AFIRE FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions About AFIRE
-
AFIRE is a type of electric fireplace insert powered by water, utilizing ultrasonic technology to produce a fine mist that simulates the appearance of flames and smoke. While AFIRE fireplaces don’t produce real fire, they create a realistic flame effect using LED lights and water vapor.
These water vapor fireplace inserts are easy to install and use, as they don’t require venting or chimneys. They can be conveniently operated via remote control. Additionally, AFIRE fireplaces are a safer, eco-friendly alternative to traditional fireplaces, emitting no harmful pollutants or particles into the air.

No, the flames aren’t real! AFIRE runs on tap water. The water vapor effect is created using ultrasonic technology, which vibrates a small metal plate at high frequencies to produce a fine mist. This mist is then illuminated by LED lights that change color and intensity, creating the realistic appearance of flames.

No, AFIRE does not produce heat. The water vapor fireplace inserts create the visual effect of fire without the danger of actual heat or flame. This makes AFIRE an ideal option for warmer climates and commercial spaces, as it allows for more flexibility with enclosure materials and eliminates the need for heat management.

AFIRE Product FAQ
-
Yes, the AFIRE water vapor fireplace insert is double-sided, allowing you to view the flames from both the front and back. It features a 3D flame effect, creating a stunning and immersive visual experience from multiple angles.
-
We strongly recommend using regular tap water with AFIRE. The natural minerals and slight impurities in tap water actually enhance the visual effect of the vapor flame. Treated water—such as filtered, distilled, or reverse osmosis—can reduce the realism of the flame effect.
Important: If you have hard water, be sure to use a water softener to prevent damage to the system. -
AFIRE Water Vapor Fireplace Inserts are not specifically rated for outdoor use, as environmental elements like wind, rain, and direct sunlight can affect the flame effect. However, with the right precautions, outdoor installation is possible and many customers have achieved excellent results.
To install outdoors, the unit must be placed under a covered area such as a roof or veranda to protect it from rain and falling debris. A wind screen should also be added to shield the flames from gusts and cross-breezes. In colder climates, the insert should be drained before any risk of freezing temperatures.

-
No. Each AFIRE water vapor fireplace insert is equipped with a backflow valve and pressure regulator, so a dedicated drain line is not required.
-
If your installation is delayed by more than a week, we recommend testing your AFIRE insert as soon as it arrives to ensure everything is working properly. After testing, drain the unit completely and store it securely in its original packaging.
Keep the insert away from any construction areas—dust and debris can easily get inside and interfere with its performance. For best results, install the unit at the very end of your project, when everything is clean and ready to go.
-
The options are wide open! Since AFIRE inserts don’t produce heat or require water protection, you’re free to use a variety of materials for your enclosure.
With proper ventilation, you can even place decorative media like rocks, log sets, or other fire accessories over the top of the insert. For the most visually striking flame effect, a matte, dark background is highly recommended.
-
AFIRE Water Vapor Fireplace Inserts aren’t officially rated for outdoor use, as wind, rain, and direct light can affect the flame effect. However, with the right setup, many customers have successfully installed them outside.
To do so safely, place the unit under a covered area like a porch or pergola to protect it from rain and falling debris. A windscreen is essential to shield the flames from strong breezes. If you live in a colder climate, be sure to fully drain the insert before freezing temperatures set in.
